The Model of Costa Rica

Costa Rica is probably the most ecological country in the world. 35% of its territory consists of strictly conserved and effectively guarded natural parks where no trees can be cut.

In support to the long-term ecological policy of the country, with government encouragement, reforestation areas have been established outside natural parks, where commercial production of tropical timber is practised. Need of timber is satisfied by these areas, and consequently there is no pressure to destroy rainforests as many other countries have unfortunately done.

One of these reforestation areas is Ticaban, near Guapiles, where teak, laurel and other tropical tree species are grown. The area is ecologically certified by the FSC certificate. Our teak comes from this area.
